Welcome to the Lake Monona Sailing Club. LMSC is a not-for-profit, volunteer based organization founded by area residents who wanted to enjoy Lake Monona’s tremendous resources. LMSC has been sponsoring sailboat races each year since 1969. We try to make sailing as easy and affordable as possible. Our club maintains two piers and welcomes sailors of every skill level.

C Scow

The C Scow is a 20′ boat with a large, single main. The high-performance C scow is sailed by a crew of two or three.  LMSC’s C fleet is a member of the ILYA with lake designation “MS”.

Flying Scot

LMSC is home to Flying Scot fleet 68. The Flying Scot is a popular 19′ day sailer. The large deep cockpit is ideal for family sailing.

LMSC’s cat fleet is comprised of several different boats including A’s, Nacra’s and Hobies. These very fast boats are scored on a handicap ratings and elapsed time.

One Design

The one design fleet includes a variety of boats. One design races are scored on a handicap ratings and elapsed time. Madison Youth Sailing (MYS) runs a summer program and keeps a number of Melges X-Boats on Lake Monona.

Where do we sail?

LMSC sails on Lake Monona. With 3,274 acres and a maximum depth of 68 feet, Lake Monona provides ample room to hold sailboat races. Lake Monona forms the south shore of the isthmus that forms downtown Madison. Our sailing venue provides a tremendous view of downtown Madison, including the Frank Lloyd Wright inspired Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center.

LMSC maintains two club piers, one at Stonebridge Park in the City of Monona and the other at Olin Park in the CIty of Madison. The piers are identified by red markers on the map to the right.

Non-sailors are also welcome at the piers. Many area residents use the piers for fishing or relaxing and enjoying the views of the lake.
